I think “grace” is one of those words we hear all the time in the Christian world… but if we’re being honest, a lot of people don’t fully understand what it actually means. We say it, we sing about it, we thank God for it – but what is grace, really?
At its core, grace is this: God giving us what we do not deserve. It’s His unearned, undeserved favor. That means He doesn’t love you because you got everything right today. He doesn’t stay close because you prayed long enough or said all the “right” things. He loves you because He is love. And He gives grace because that’s who He is.
There’s a verse that says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” ~ 2 Corinthians 12:9
And I love that so much, because it tells us something so important – grace isn’t just about being saved… it’s about being sustained.
Grace is what meets you in your weakness. It’s the strength you feel when you should’ve fallen apart. It’s the peace that shows up in the middle of chaos. It’s that gentle, quiet whisper that says, “Come back to Me,” instead of, “You failed again.”
And if I can be real for a minute… I’m in a season right now where grace is not just a concept to me – it’s something I’m having to lean on daily. I’m walking through some hurt with people… the kind that catches you off guard, especially when you genuinely love people and just want peace. It’s been discouraging at times, and if I’m honest, it’s made my heart feel a little tender.
But even here… grace is meeting me.
Not because I handled everything perfectly. Not because I always said the right thing or responded the right way. But because God is gracious.
He’s reminding me that He’s not dealing with me based on my performance… He’s loving me based on His nature.
And that means even in this –
even in the hurt…
even in the confusion…
even in the moments where I feel a little shaken…
His grace is still covering me.
And here’s what I didn’t understand for a long time – grace doesn’t just forgive you… it grows you. It teaches you. It strengthens you. It gently transforms you over time. The very things that try to break you are often the very places where God’s grace meets you the deepest.
So if you take anything from this, hold onto this truth:
Grace is God holding you, helping you, and loving you – right in the middle of your mess, not after you’ve cleaned it up.
You don’t have to strive for it. You don’t have to earn it. You don’t have to prove yourself worthy of it.
You simply receive it.
And maybe today, that looks like taking a deep breath and reminding yourself, “His grace is enough for me… even here, even now.”
Shine your Jesus shine, beautiful people.
