When the Flower Fades

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”

~ Isaiah 40:8

Trials come.

Hard seasons come.

Pain comes. Loss comes. Fear comes. Disappointment comes. Sometimes life shifts so quickly that we barely have time to catch our breath before we are standing in the middle of something we never expected.

There are seasons that feel like they will never end.

The diagnosis. The financial pressure. The strained relationship. The grief. The unanswered prayer. The waiting. The uncertainty. The thing you thought you had already healed from that suddenly finds its way back to the surface.

In those moments, it can feel as if the hard thing is permanent. It can feel like the pain has settled in and made itself at home.

But it has not.

The Bible tells us, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”

Flowers are beautiful, but they are not meant to last forever. They bloom for a season. They bring color and life and beauty. Then eventually, they fade.

So do seasons.

The good ones change. The hard ones change. Our circumstances change. People change. Feelings change. Even the things that once felt impossible to survive become part of the story we look back on and say, “God carried me through that.”

That does not mean our pain is small. It does not mean we should pretend hard things do not hurt. Some seasons leave us tired. Some leave us grieving. Some leave us asking God questions we never thought we would have to ask.

But pain does not get the final word.

Fear does not get the final word.

The trial does not get the final word.

God does.

His Word remains when everything around us feels unstable. His promises remain when our emotions are all over the place. His truth remains when the future feels uncertain. His presence remains when we cannot see what He is doing.

What tried to break you will not have the final word.

What feels unbearable today will not last forever.

God’s Word is still true. He is still faithful. He is still near. He is still working, even in the places that feel quiet, confusing, and painful.

Maybe you are in a season right now that feels especially heavy. Maybe you are tired of waiting for things to change. Maybe you are holding on by a thread.

Hold on to the Word.

Not the word of fear. Not the word of people. Not the word of your circumstances. Not even the word of your own exhausted thoughts.

Hold on to God’s Word.

Because the grass will wither. The flower will fade. The season will change.

But the Word of our God stands forever.
